  • Tests that measure TOG to ensure breathability and prevent overheating.
  • General tests applicable to all children’s products (lead, flammability, etc.).
  • Nested Bean has always opted to go above and beyond what is required. Look for safety testing that goes above and beyond This prompts the baby’s parasympathetic nervous system response to help relax and fall asleep naturally. Taken together, these numbers correspond to the amount of pressure applied by a parent’s reassuring touch when holding their baby. How do we reach that weight? We design our products with safety guidance from top Human Factors Design labs, minimizing the area of the filling to less than 18% of the entire product length, using filling that weighs just 16% of the total product weight, and 0.5-1% the of the body weight of babies in the 0-6 month range. In 2012, when we pioneered this concept of lightly weighted sleepwear with the Zen Swaddle, we applied it with great restraint, using just 30 grams of weight. Nested Bean has always erred on the conservative side, so that sleep-deprived parents never need to reach for an unsafe alternative. As a result, the infant sleepwear category now includes a huge array of infant sleepwear products-with weights that range from 30 grams to several pounds.

But to date, regulatory bodies haven’t yet developed those standards, so they’ve been open to interpretation. Not all weighted sleepwear is created equalįirst of all, it’s very important that all infant sleepwear companies adhere to a standardized approach to weighted design, in order to ensure product safety. So, to help add clarity, we want to provide some insight into the reasoning behind their recommendations, and how Nested Bean has designed our products accordingly. Intended to help parents make the very best decisions, these recommendations include broad, cautionary statements about the safety of weighted sleepwear for babies less than 1 year old. She only wears this for her long night sleep, so it's not a major concern. As a company committed to infant safety, we were pleased to see some of the recent updates the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) made to their Safe Sleep Guidelines. None of these things have happened and she doesn't spit up, but it's something I keep an eye on.

Also, a small part of me worries that if she needs to move because of coughing/spit up, her arms are too restricted and she won't be able to. Only reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is because we do notice that, because she still moves & wiggles while in the swaddle, sometimes the flaps move up towards her neck/mouth so that worries me. That sounds like a WIN for us! Also, she doesn't mind her arms being held down, so that was a pleasant surprise. My friend recommended this product and it made a difference! Longer, peaceful, uninterrupted sleep and a happy baby! She can sleep 8 whole hours without waking up at night and she's only 2 months old. Shortly after this, her sleep would get interrupted more & more because her arms would twitch and move in her sleep (startle reflex) and we started to notice her mood change a little, being more fussy and cry from being tired. At about one month we stopped being consistent with swaddling her because we thought she didn't like her arms being constricted (that wasn't true, shouldn't have given in so quickly, new parent/rookie mistake). This swaddle really helped my daughter STAY asleep.
